About Kimberly @ Novel Matters
I’m the teacher behind Novel Matters. After years in the high school English classroom, I know the balancing act: you want students to read closely, think deeply, and become stronger writers—but you also have lessons to plan, papers to grade, and approximately seventeen other things that needed to be done yesterday.
I created Novel Matters to make that work a little easier. My resources are built around the things I found myself needing in my own classroom: practical systems for teaching annotation and literary analysis, engaging ways to approach classic texts, meaningful writing assignments, and tools that make feedback and grading more manageable. Everything is designed with a simple belief in mind: rigor and practicality don’t have to compete. Students can do genuinely thoughtful work without teachers reinventing the wheel every Sunday night.
At its heart, Novel Matters is about making literature courses matter. I believe English classrooms should be places where students learn to notice, question, interpret, argue, create, and communicate—not just complete another worksheet about Chapter 7. My goal is to give secondary ELA teachers thoughtful, ready-to-use resources that create space for exactly that kind of learning—and give teachers a little more of their own time back in the process.

My students LOVED working together to create their own worlds and stories within them. The various prompt cards used throughout each step of the project let students creatively shine in a way I've never seen before!

Will absolutely use again. It was great to have a large variety of prompts to reach a plethora of students and not be bored to tears reading the same essay over and over. This will be a staple in my unit.
